Title: Y'all Getting Ready?
Post by: bohicajuan on August 11, 2011, 10:46:13 PM
Bow season starts here next month, and just like last season I'm not ready. Why do things speed up as you get older? When I was a kid deer season took forever to get here. Now it seems like it just closed last week.

Yeah, time does seem to speed up as we get older, bo. But, it still seems like a long stretch while waiting for squirrel season to open. This summer seemed to blast by.

It's like that in Atlanta too. We had a couple guys taken to the hospital the past few weeks because they're not staying hydrated. I have to get the old Black Widow out and have her restrung. I bought 2 new strings last year and now I can't find the d*** things. I could have sworn I put them in my tackle box, but they ain't there. I guess memory is the second thing to go at this age. :tickedoff :tickedoff :'( :'(

My son John In Phoenix is headed to the PSE factory to have a special bow made for himself. A pal of his in Phoenix knows the folks at PSE and put him on the deal.

Son plans on getting back to bowhunting and doing it in AZ this year. His pal hunts with PSE.

I was selling PSE equipment part time when they were just busting into the market.

Haven't done a thing either. My last anything with hunting was in Spring when I brought back a rifle from the USA and messed around with a scope or two. Changed the butt stock on one Handi and added weight in both. Those warmer 45-70 Govt loads can get your attention in a hurry.

It is warm or wet and mostly buggy outside. I'm waiting to see if we got a Doe tag. Waiting for the ATF to get my pita paperwork and then I need to decide what or if I am going to hunt South.

Bow season opened here this morning.  Been looking on a state hunting site to see how people did.  As of right now, I only know of 1 doe being taken by a 13 year old boy.

That's tough hunting in hot weather, BC!

A bit of progress, the ATF blessed me with a permit to bring two specific rifles into the US of A. My Rem 742 and a Handi.

The local Doe lottery results will be out on the 13th of Sept. Haven't touched a rifle yet.

A 3 month stay south of my border will set me back about 3K's. That is a lot of bread especially as I'm bound and determined to to some cruising next summer. Decisions Decisions. :-\

BBF, you forget how they do things in Florida. They stop you at the state line and ask if you have a gun. If you say no, they give you one.

The Doe( Antlerless) results are in early. :) :)

Missus and I got two of them !!
Dragging the little woman out in the AM is going to require some serious work.
Now I'm only going to GA for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year staying at my sisters place. FL is just to rich for me.

Anybody got a "recommend" for a good outfitter for hogs at that time??
I need a stand or ground blind, my legs don't do much walking any more. Forget running after dogs, using a spear or knife either. I've got a few working brain cells left.

What part of GA ya' gonna be in?  Bo and/or J-Bucks may be able to help you out finding some place.

Sounds like you need to drink more and take care of that pesky problem.  O0 >:D

BBF you have me confused. You have doe permits for where? Georgia doesn't give doe/antlerless permits as part of its big game license. You buy your big game tag which allows you to kill 12 deer. 10 of those by law MUST be does/antlerless.

Some of the WMA's have quota hunts. Is that what you're talking about?

If I'm wrong I apologize, but didn't I send you some hog guides numbers and addresses last year?

Yes you did, as you wrote it was last year :D
I'm doing good if I remember last week.

This whole trip south this year sucks big time. 6000km roundtrip to spent Christmas with my sister and then dogsit 3 dogs plus our own for a week so I can drive back in January with maybe a hog hunt for my troubles.  Gaaah :idiot2

Not to worry BBF I'll find you some new ones and post them tomorrow.

AND................

It's NOT because I'm getting old. It's the headaches you've caused trying to confuse me with all this expensive Star Wars computer stuff you want me to buy and say I have to have, It'll take up so much room I'll have to move outside to sleep. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Bow season started here in KY on September 1st. I'm trying some new mechanical broad heads this year, Torrid 100G C.O.C. I have practiced with them and they fly like a field point, so I'm getting good groupings. I also decided to try a Tagged Out range finder. If your not familiar with what it is, it is a range finder that attaches directly to any round site. I am using a Tru-Glo 3 pin Extreme, if anyone has hunted with it let me know your thoughts. I read a lot of reviews on and off their website and it got a lot of good reviews. It allows you to range the deer at full draw basically. I'll be heading out next Wednesday for my first hunt of the year.

I'm just rereading these posts and realized I never wrote that this GA trip over Christmas last year didn't happen. Saner minds prevailed.

It has been pretty warm here in KY also. Luckily this week the temps will be in the mid 60's so it should make for comfortable hunting.

Round here, its been a bit warm. Last couple weeks its cooled off and we got a good solid 24hours of rain 2 days ago. Supposed to be in the high 40s in the early AM and mid 60s during the daylight hours. 10 day forecast says 46 low and 64 high partly cloudy for the opening day here in PA.(september 29th)

Seemed like the summer blasted past me, but time just slowed down to a crawl waiting for hunting season... Im ready, but still hitting the target at least twice a week until opening day. New bow string, new broadheads, new release and a new sight.

It's raining here, and has cooled down a LOT.

Tomorrow is going to be cool but really windy, not a good hunting day.

My old pal Ron and I are planning on hitting the woods Sunday afternoon. He needs some more training, is pretty much a beginner squirrel hunter. We are using our HMR rifles, of course.

I spent last weekend at the hospital with my wife and now that she's home and doing pretty good, I think things have loosened up enough for me to sneak out for a while.

I'm still waiting for the gun doc's call, informing me he's finished with my two spare squirrel rifles. Am waiting for another call for my new eye glasses.

I reckon I will get some shop work done this weekend.  :)
