Not getting a semi auto. Don't think i can hunt with those in pa yet. Just want a solid bolt action for ground hogs and to get started reloading. Not sure if you are thinking about an AR or something similar.

I would suggest a Savage bolt action, fuzzy. It would be a repeater, not bad cost, and accurate. I own 2 savage rifles. I really like the .223 round.

I have my issued M4 at work and I shoot it. 5.56 is a wicked round.  O0

Yeah thinking about a savage my 22mag is savage and i love it.
Just a matter of saving up for it. Betting im gonna spend 500 for a scope and the rifle.

Yeah, most likely. You can also find good used scopes. Used scopes have no set price like most everything else does. You can really deal on them.

The last used scope I bought was $20. I cleaned it up and sold it for $50. It had rubber coating that turned to tar. I easily cleaned the "tar" off with wood alcohol and underneath was a nice blued scope.

Nah im looking into joining another range yet but i got a box of 223 sitting here on my desk talking to me. Its a savage axis. This is the third savage i have counting my broken 222 and my 22mag. My 222 is broken cause i got it when my grandfather died and somebody when he had tried to polish the chamber and messed up hard so i cant reload the brass.

My buddy at my normal gun shop says about 2 months of work and 500 or so bucks to get a new barrel. so i bought my 223 to get into reloading and to have something to hunt ground hogs and other stuff with till i save up enough to re barrel my 222.

O0 Good plan, fuzzy. Your .223 will certainly fill in the gaps until your get things fixed. PA abounds in pasture poodles.

So how's the rifle working out, fuzz?

Finally shot it today. It didn't like the ammo i was using, but it was just cheap stuff to get it sort of in and to feel the trigger out. On the trigger its at my gun smith getting lightened to 3 pounds instead of the 5 to 6 it was. Ill know more after that is done. I can show my targets here in a bit. Also going to start looking to reload for my 223 it was my plan to start when i got one. so going to need to figure that out. Also those targets are at 50Yrds i always start short when sighting in once i get it dialed down i move it out. Sadly i never really got it where i was happy. ill try again next week if my trigger is done by then.

Well got the 223 back and the trigger was 8 freaking pounds no wonder i couldn't hit anything. Now it is about 3 pounds no creep and should do better. Have to wait till i'm off to try again. But i have another 20 rounds to use.

Well i'm not fighting the trigger anymore. Now i just need to get a shooting bench built. I'm figuring if i do that and get it in solid, i can get it sighted in and then just go hunting ground hogs. On and the order of targets is top left, top right, the final is bottom. And this is at 100yrds so doing better. Still having to shoot off of the top of a car.

You're getting there amigo, just keep on doing what you're doing. I agree the shooting bench will help you out, and so will sandbags if you don't already have them. You've got a good setup and when you finally start reloading you'll be able to find out what the rifle eats best! O0 O0
