O0 You will like that Savage! I have a first model 93 I tricked out. I also have a Savage BMAG .17 WSM I hunt with. It has the Accu Trigger that I like. I bought it as soon as they were in the stores. It is the only rifle I hunt with unless I want to drag out a centerfire.

My early model 93 was rushed onto the market with a horrible factory trigger so I had a Basix Sear Kit installed and two custom thumbhole left hand curly grain cherry stocks made for it. It has the factory varmint barrel that I have never seen any more accurate. It shoots one hole groups at 100 meters, not a cloverleaf group. Trigger is set on 12 ounces and smooth as butter. The rifle is a right hand rifle with left hand stocks.

I traded knife work for my two custom stocks, worked out great. My brother had a stock made just like mine and out of the same cherry wood plank. The maker charged him $400. We both are left hand shooters.

The stock maker had us send our factory stocks and he added to and then used a replicator to make the new stocks. I sure wish he stayed in business because I would have liked him to make a like stock for my BMAG .17 WSM.

On page 11 of misc pictures here on GP are a couple of pictures of my tricked out Savage 93 HMR.

Not till tomorrow went up today they were working of the fields so couldnt today. Have 200 rounds now though. Once i get it hitting paper im gonna test out 3 different kinds to see what works best in it. Stopped At my dads on the way, he handled it and basically said he loved it.

Was out this morning and im realizing i need a new bench setup my ghetto one works fine for just plinking. But trying to sight in and test ammo it isnt up to snuff. Getting 2 inch groups at 60 isnt that good. Those 2 wild ones are me not being steady enough. Hunting wise it'll be fine.My membership to my hunting club starts before squirrel and im just doing ground hogs till the and a 2 inch groups out to 75 or so is fine for them. You can see what the gun wants to do with the 3 in the middle. Forgot to add those are 3 inch circles for the target.

Oh now that i have my phone back from my dads house after i stopped by for lunch. I can put my shooting setup on here. I need a better scope on it already. Just really want more magnification but my budget cant pull more than 200 at most if i squeeze my wallet.

Your rifle should be putting the holes no more than a cloverleaf group at that distance. Seriously.

My HMR will and does put them through the same hole ( witnessed by a gunsmith ) at 100 meters. I have the heavy blued barrel.

How is your trigger set, heavy? If so, adjust in to the lightest touch you can, for starters.

You should consider the bore is not broken in yet.

I don't know about your scope. I have a BSA 6X-24X on my Savage 93. It's not expensive but serves me well.

I know it isnt broken in yet. And its not the rifle doing that its me and my crappy rest. I was looking at bsa but i dont know about the quality but the price is about right. I might be able to squeeze a bipod into my budget this week if i can find a ok one at an ok price.

O0 Yeah on crappy rest killing your groups, fuzz! I bought that BSA scope at wallyworld for $120 and found out later much better deals online.

I don't have a pod on that rifle, would not fit my needs for squirrel hunting. And it would add weight to an already heavy rifle. I think you would be better off putting that pod money towards a scope. I must say I am very happy with the BSA scope.

The accuracy of the HMR is absolutely amazing.

My .17 WSM BMAG is a light carry, less than 4 1/2 pounds with the Tupperware stock. I have a 6.5X-20X on it.

Have you been out again with that great rifle?

Not recently. Ordered a cheap bipod to try it out. Why not.

O0 Well, yeah. A lot of folks use them.

So the bi pod made a huge difference. I forgot to take pictures though. But instead of 2 inch groups i was getting more often 1 inch or less. And my gun does not like the 17gr as much as the 20gr hollow points. Once i started shooting them my groups shrunk alot. Had a 5 shot group that was under a quarter and 4 of them under a nickel. Also for a 33 dollar bipod im tickled pink with it. Was some no name brand i bought of amazon.

It was like night and day. My old 17 loved the 17gr hornady. But this thing is different. Might try to go out friday if i can get another box of the 20gr. I think im going to put money into this thing. Maybe get it bedded and a better scope.

Could be, or getting flyers. What is your trigger set at?
Title: Re: Ordered a new gun
Post by: fuzztsimmers on July 18, 2020, 09:59:12 AM
Im not sure i do not have a gauge for it but it isnt heavy at all. Its the accutrigger. And so far feels real good. And if they are fliers ill have to see about getting it bedded. Also since the bipod is working im going to get a rear bag to help and after that im pretty sure ill tighten them up.

Though even if its me making the flyers or the gun doesnt matter at the ranges i get shots for squirrels every one of those shots would have hit the head anyways. But once i can get stable i will know if its me or the gun.

It could be the ammo, given prior serious problems many of us have suffered.

I corresponded back and forth with Winchester for replacement of boxes of bad ammo and finally gave up the chase. :tickedoff I did thank them for inventing the WSM and other great things but was not satisfied of non replacement of the bad ammo.

One of the problems was discovered of dud rounds. My experienced and schooled gunsmith pal and I tore down some rounds and discovered there was no primer material.   :tickedoff There is some great info on the 'net of problem .17 WSM Ammo.

Im using hornady and have not even had a missfire yet. But i refuse to use winchester ammo i have seen too many quality problems. Also this is a 17hmr not wsm. I want a wsm but not going to be in the cards for a while. I have a small goal of having a 22lr, 22wmr, 7hmr, and 17m2. Now i thinking i need to add 17wsm.

  O0 Yeah on the WSM!

I never had a problem with HMR ammo, was always perfect. My varmint barrel prefers 17gr but shoots the 20gr fine too. My Savage 93 HMR is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

Another good thing about HMR ammo, you can find it anywhere ammo is sold. A few years ago my brother and I found a pawn shop going out of business sale and bought their entire stock of 17gr Hornady ammo, 8 bricks for $80.00 per brick and no tax.  O0  We shared our find with pals we hunt with.

O0 I offer a piece of advice, don't clean your rifle barrel until  your groups open up. Rimfire rifles tend to shoot more accurate with a dirty bore.

It's nice that most everywhere you can buy .17 HMR ammo.
Title: Re: Ordered a new gun
Post by: fuzztsimmers on July 28, 2020, 01:35:24 PM
Oh i know about rimfires liking to be dirty. I have only cleaned that out side of the gun at the moment. Also cant wait to get out after squirrels with it this year. My 22mag is gonna get lonely unless a friend needs to borrow a gun to go with me.

O0 Yeah, same here. I have some rifles that sit because I use my .17 WSM. My other rimfire rifles wait to be used as loaners.

Our small game hunting season doesn't open for another month.  When does your season open?
Title: Re: Ordered a new gun
Post by: fuzztsimmers on July 29, 2020, 11:27:34 AM
Its a month early this year. Starts September 12th and goes of and on till February 27th. Not sure im going to go in september much tends to be warm and buggy. Also it will be very overgrown and i dont like my 20gauge for squirrel unless i can get a new barrel with choke tubes.

It's hard to beat the accuracy of the HMR.

That is only at 50. Any further and they open up bad. My rear bag is to high so im working on getting another smaller one. That was off my hand as a bag. That doesnt work to well.
