Title: 22-243 Ackley Improved
Post by: APRock on January 27, 2008, 08:16:28 AM
Anybody load this?  It is similar to the 22-243 Middlestead but has a 40 degree shoulder as opposed the Middlesteads 30 degree.  Buddy of mine "HAD" to have one made (rifle that is), and he is a reloading "nutcase" - which ain't all bad when I need a few rounds .  He is having trouble finding any load data specifically for this round.  I found quite a few for the Middlestead and that is a place to start, but he would like to see what others are doing with their AI rounds.

Here ya go APR. I pulled this from benchrest.com (figured if I was gonna quote their post, they might as well get a shout-out).

Quote
V 550 48,0 grains Nosler ball.tip 40 gr primer CCI 200 brass Lapua Oal 64 m/m

i use this load to hammer out the nails that holds the target... note the huge freebore, compared to the forming load!!!

V 550 47,0 grains Nosler ball tip 55 gr primer CCI 200 brass Lapua Oal 65 m/m

FIREFORMINGS LOAD...

V 150 37,5 grains Hornady hpbt match 75 gr primer CCI 200 brass Lapua Oal 69,5 m/m

this forming load is a bit on the hot side, but still safe and goes 1021 m/s... (appr. 3560fps)
this load will hold 1,5" groups all day long, at 200 meters...(218,72yds) and could be improved upon...

You'll have to translate, but there's some info there that should do your buddy some good. O0 Let us know how it shoots. O0
