All I can say is you better like liver and unions. Cuz thats what they taste like to me. All the guys I know that duck hunt, shoot and sink em. ;D Aint any of em like liver, so they dont bring em home. O0 I love liver myself, but not in duck form! ;D Ive been once or twice, and it didnt thrill me. But you got to try it and find out if its your cup of tea. So good luck out there! O0

About the same shooting skill level.

I ate duck once. I also thought it tasted like liver. I was told it might have been because it was a diver. If the next one also tastes like liver, this might be a short lived hobby.

mallards and canadian geese taste good.  i personnally think widgeon, gadwall, wood duck and teal tastes the same as mallards.  sea ducks taste like rotten fish i heard.  if you are shooting sea ducks or fish ducks don't expect them to be tasty.  aim for the green heads!

Post by: Jenny on October 31, 2008, 08:47:30 AM
Thanks, I'm sure we are hunting mallards, but i have no idea what else is out there. I've been told when I buy a duck stamp, I can take two of each species. But I'm not sure that will happen, lol. I'll be lucky to get 1 of 1 species. ;D  ;D

well just remember to relax. They ain't commin in as fast as you may think and they don't turn on a dime. Take your time to place the shot. You won't have alot of time, but it's not like hitting the brakes on the car in a panic stop.
Oh, and as with any bird hunting, Take the time to sight in on just one bird, don't just "sky-blast" into the flock, hoping to hit one, you won't.

In short time we will have those kids corrupted, I mean, educated.

A kid can learn the real tricks here.

How to snare deer.

How to duck hunt using only dynamite and buckets of pea gravel.

Snagging at midnight.

Spotlighting at its best.

Shooting while your pal drives.

How to use dry ice in trout holes.

Avoiding pesky law enforcement.

How to plead in court.

How to make your own throwaway silencer.

Yes, Iowa has all the options of hunting and fishing.  ;D

I never met a hunter who wasn't absolutely obsessed with waterfowling once they tried. Glad to see ya'll managed to knock some. Woodies are great eating, but teal are best. I don't know your number of birds, but this weekend we had about 50 shootable woodies fly over and saw another 300 or so just out of range-this year was just great for them!

They toss a chunk of dry ice in a trout hole. The CO2 snuffs the trout because it replaces the O2. Then, it's just a matter of picking up the snuffed fish.    ****** HIGHLY ILLEGAL*****!

Post by: Tenderfoot on February 03, 2009, 08:15:37 PM
How much dry ice do you need?? And is this "hole" like ice fishing hole, or "fishing hole" hole? And the CO2 gets the O2 out of the water how? Or do the fish breath the CO2 bubbles/it disolves in the water enough to mess em up?

About a 2 pound slab of dry ice is tossed into an average size trout stream hole and the fish are suffocated. The amount of dry ice varies according to the stream size hole's volume, of course.
The way I found out about the illegal proceedure was when I was returning from a Utah trout fishing trip and stopped in Wyoming for additional dry ice for the cooler. The gentleman at the store insisted on seeing our fish before he sold us any dry ice. I was of course curious because of his conditions and asked him what the deal was.

After he inspected our fish, he explained the dry ice "fishing". He also told us it seemed to be practiced quite frequently out west.

Trout are trout, about anywhere you catch them. Yes, stream trout can reach just a big of size as trout in lakes.

*Hijack* Turkey, your name reminded me of today. I was driving through GA when I spotted this turkey about 2' off the road at .5 miles. He never moved and I almost got myself dinner, but he flew right in front of my window and I got a nice 5 yard veiw of that beard and irridescent plumage and I'm all hyped up about gobbler season coming up, now! They realy are cool birds...I just wish I had gotten him today, the easy way so I wouldn't have to sit in the skeeter infested swamps all spring.

*Hijack response*. That bird would have taken out your windshield. I was following one of my fellow officers at work and a big tom took out his windshield. He received minor cuts. Most of the 23# + bird was hanging in his vehicle and he nearly wrecked the patrol vehicle.

I wasn't expecting him to fly, but when he did I sure did slow down. I probably should slow down more often instead of figuring the animals will move. That is my third close call this month-and my first hit(on a bunny that I never could find). I used to slow down when I saw critters, but lately I've been kinda hungry for good meat.

Conversing here is just like a bunch of pals sitting around a table chatting. Real conversation usually has its diversions and the subject often times strays off topic. At the table, nobody gets upset, they are just doing what's natural.

As we know, other boards get upset because some of the mods and members are ironclad on subject matter.  :tickedoff We here at Gutpiles  are a much more well rounded out bunch. HEY! IS THAT A CHICKEN OVER THERE?

I have seen some big deer, but the state record is like 160 or so, and the average mountable deer is maybe 100 or so, so 120 looks like a monster to me....heck with the adrenaline, 50 looks like a monster.
