D-I-L has a trophy mule deer tag in 513.

That is south of Winnett to Roundup ish.

We did opening day out there. I could only shoot Whitetail , My son had a doe mule deer tag for that area.

NOT a lot of deer , we hunted a LOT of ground. there is huge block managements that are just sign in and they let you drive the 2 tracks. A good amount of Public land too.

We saw 2 "Trophy" bucks one , the smaller, still huge. We just could not get on it, and one a true Trophy 200+ buck she had a very good shot at. ONLY 568 yards in a 30 mph wind...

She took the Creedmoor but also had the 338/378.

Like any good golfer she knew when to use an iron or a club. She chose the club. A little adjustment for range and windage she pulled the trigger on the 338. So close!.

But the deer pranced off thinking he was bullet proof, we never got on him again.

Early , like first light we has 4 does run right up to us and the trucks, My boy passed on the shot.

But around noon and no deer in the truck we found a group of does just off the 2 track about 110 yards . He grabbed his 7.62 Russian. Odd choice in my mind but he had never killed a deer with it and he had sporterized it for hunting so why not ,other then he only had one shell in the gun...

That's all he needed, I watched from my truck with the bino's . Perfect shot just behind the mid shoulder. I could see the red spray from the other side of the deer.

She folded and squiggled down to with in 30 yards of the road NICE. I DRUG THE DEER TO THE TRUCK, how different is that???

She is small, but the others may have still had spots, should be OK for eating I suppose. We gave it to a guy from my work.

Long one day hunt 500 mile ,3:00 AM to 9:00 PM but we got to see a lot of new country. They will have to go back and fill D-I-L tag...

Sadly no.
It is quite a heavy boat for the motor set up.
It only drafts about 2 1/2 inch of water but heavy with stuff.
It tops out at about 9/10 mph in deep water.
But get in to shallow water and you get a ground effect.
You can get an extra 10 mph in 5 or 6 inches of water

 Wow! That one hot wire almost spelled disaster! I'm sure glad you got that fixed and are on an even plane, D.

Looks like you had some hunting luck. too.  O0

I bet your mud boat will really move along on the water. Goes pretty fast?

We took the "mud Boat" and did a swan hunt.
We start out early as the norm ,27* and 4" of snow and a drizzle.

53 miles took a little over an hour and a half, just a titch slippery...

The boat is "Full" of decoys so much that we have to stand and squeeze in between the 'coy bags, barely able to move the tiller.

Wind out of the west south west about 15 mph.

Pushed the boat off the trailer parked the truck and start to head out in to the blackness. The motor died Humm, that's odd. Hit the starter key and nothing, hit the new led light bars, nothing, grabbed the spot light, yup nothing. By now we are out in to the lake about a third of a mile ,we think total darkness. Found the flashlights and opened the battery hatch. We have 2 batteries, one runs the starter, bilge, and light bar. The second one runs every thing else.

We had jumper cables and jumped to the second battery, all hell broke loose. Smoke came rolling out from under the gunnels , front hatches and the back of the boat. Crap a fire!

The boy tosses a bag of decoys over the side and crawled in to the battery hold and started jerking off wires. The smoke stopped. Now we had to be a mile in to the lake. We then jumped to the other battery again and barely got the motor going. WOW wonder what happened ? We swung around and picked up the bag of decoys that was still floating Hoisted it back in mostly full of water. Kinda guessed where the heck we where and continued the hunt, nuts or what?

We kept the motor running for an hour or two as we set the decoys , and set up the boat blind tucked in to a bunch of reeds.

Sun came up to see we where about where we planed to hunt.

Hunting was slow had a few ducks come close enough to shoot at and one lone ross goose which the boy shot.

We saw 4 swan about 500 yards that just flew by not even to look at out decoys. at noon the wind was about 30 mph by now we called it as over. Gathered up the dekes and headed in.

Had to "hand" load the boat in the wind closed it up and came home.

We got to my yard unloaded and figured we had better see if we could find the problem.

Started at the front.

Opened the fuel tank hatch ...

We found one of the problems. For what ever reason, either putting on the blind or stuffing the boat with decoys a power port wire got pinched by the fuel tank hatch . This wire run on top of the plastic 20 gallon tank. and the full length of the boat. it burned in to the other wires in the loom, shorting out even the Main battery stuff that's what shut down the motor and killed the battery.

That in itself sucks , but it every thing but burned in to the gas tank.

A tenth of a second longer and it would have, That would have been very bad.....

All is well that ends well I guess.

We FIXED the problem and that will not happen again.

We did get two ducks and the goose.
