2009 Spring Turkey Contest
« on: May 20, 2009, 10:58:29 AM »
Well, it looks like things are winding down.  Since we started this, we might as well finish it. O0

Here were the rules:

Quote
Contest will run 3/1/09 - 5/31/09
2 person teams - Teams chosen at random from all entries
4 bearded turkeys allowed per team
Turkeys will be scored using NWTF scoring system
Hunters must "call their shots" (more on this later)

Points Accumulation

NWTF Score - This is just what is says

Weapon - Bonus points will be awarded based on "how" you harvested the turkey
     Rifle -- 0 pts
     Modern breech-loading shotgun - 1 pt
     Muzzleloading shotgun - 2 pts
Archery (vertical or cross bow) - 3 pts
     Bare hands and/or knife - 4 pts
Vehicle windshield (Plott & J.A. only - No points for tire tracks though!) - ..........
(Points will be determined by the total number of turkey harvested for the
contest, divided by the number of hunters in the contest, plus the weight
of the turkey, minus the total number of missed shots at turkeys during the
contest, with the total number of points awarded per turkey not to
          exceed 4)

Pictures - Bonus points will be awarded based on the following:
Picture of turkey - 1 pt
Picture of turkey in natural surroundings - 2 pts
Picture of turkey, in natural surrounding, with hunter - 3 pts
Picture of turkey, in natural surrounding, with hunter, and weapon - 4 pts
All of the above with no shadows, picture is clear, and turkey isn't chewing Union Station - 5 pts

Calling What Ya' Get
After the teams are drawn, each person will have to try to guess what they will harvest and enter in the contest.  The limit is 4 turkeys per team, so if you get paired with someone who you think won't get anything, then you can guess up to 4 turkeys.  Each person will have to say what they will get (jake or adult) and the number of each.
If you call the type & number correctly - 2 pts
If you call the type or number incorrectly - 0 pts
(This is an all or nothing deal)

The contest is designed so that each person on the team can enter 2 turkeys.  If 1 person gets 3 and the other person gets 1 then everything is OK.  But if 1 person gets 2 turkeys and the other gets 3 or more, only 2 of the second person's turkeys will count in the contest.

After everyone is signed up and the teams are drawn, I'll post a topic with the teams.  In that topic is where everyone will call what they think they'll get.

Points totals will be calculated along the way, with each turkey entered in the contest (and applicable bonus points) adding to the team total.  Prizes will be awarded for the Highest Scoring Team and Highest Scoring Overall Bird (using NWTF scoring ONLY).  Depending upon what we are able to come up with for prizes, other prize categories may be added along the way. O0

And here were the team pairings:

So what has been the outcome?  If you've harvested a bird, post the picture in this topic (or provide a link to where it is).  The contest ends in 11 days.  We'll decide everything then as to who the winners are.  But if you're done for the year, go ahead and post your pictures and such in here now so I can get started figuring everything up. In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

Oh wait, in the second pic there is a blood puddle in the bed but the bed is clean in the forth pic.  But he could have cleaned it up knowing that he would be able to use that in his defense.  Busted!
