I used to groundhog hunt a lot, and also blew up lots of cats while ghog hunting.
Some groundhogs get pretty smart. I remember a few that were hard to kill. One lived in a big den tree and his hole was about 10 feet above the ground. Another one lived under a farmer's car garage. A couple of others lived in dens on high cliff faces. I got all busted up hunting one of those living on a cliff face, fell off the dang cliff and dang near killed myself.

They don't climb trees as fast as a coon or squirrel, but they climb real good.
