Another Mountain Lion Killed Near Here
« on: December 05, 2004, 12:57:48 PM »
Last night I was watching our local news and watched a newscast of another couger, weighing 98 pounds that was killed near here, a few miles across the river in Mercer County, Illinois. A hunter got it right behind      :D his house. Three or four have been killed on this side of the river this year. The lions are legal to hunt here, so if I do see one, he will end up on my wall.  :D  :D  :DThe lion was killed 7 miles from our duck hunting spot.

Around here, they released some cougars into the wild to help control the pet population, but to my knowledge, they didn't increase the number of deer permit available... What's wrong with this picture?

Edit....

I just noticed I wrote pet... I'm not sure why... I musta been half asleep when I wrote that. I meant deer, for the record.

i had one walk right under my stand 3 years ago in nw minnesota. i was only 10 ft off the ground, coulda spit on him. it was thick woods, and didnt see him coming till he was about 10 feet from my stand! i put my scope on his head, and stomped, and he looked up at me and snarled. i snarled back, then he snarled again, and took off right under me between the trees that i had my stand in. about 3 seconds later, i heard what sounded like the biggest catfight in history, and then pounding feet in the woods. the had headed towards where my sister was hunting, so i beat cheek as fast as i could towards her stand. when i got there she was white as a ghost. she had just seen a cougar, but a really dark colored one, chase a deer right in front of her stand. (she didnt get a shot off) after comparing stories, we reasoned that there were 2 cougars in the woods that day. dad has a couple of camtracker pics of one, along with pics of a bobcat and a lynx somewhere. maybe i could get CSP to post em

Besides hearing them, the only mountain lion I have seen in the wild was in Minn., while we were hunting bear.
