Thanks BC:

Rather then starting a new thread I will continue here.
After my good neighbor and son not only pulled that deer out of the bush for me they also quartered it up after the Missus and I skinned it. My neighbor and I were both puzzled by the amount of blood shot meat we found. The "boolit" hit back of the shoulder and we found a lot of bood and some jelly between the layers of muscles in the entrance side of the shoulder. A lot of waste and dog food :'(
This was a close range shot (30 yard) with a reduced V load 30-06 shooting a 150 gr Speer RN.

We are done for this year although we have one tag left. High time to roll south before the white or even worse the ice covers the roads.

On a different subject. Cleaning up the 742 and as much as I like the rifle, I hate cleaning the bore from the muzzle side in. So I got a pull through, (not  Snake). The first patch was loose so I put two together and started to pull.It was a bit heavy but I got it moving down the barrel until........ S N A P......not the string but the jig( nylon) broke on the threaded part of the pullthrough about 2 maybe 3 inches from the muzzle  :tickedoff :tickedoff

Now WTF am I going to do. You cant' come in from the breech. Trying to push it back down with the patches all lined up the wrong way is hopeless.

A roundtrip to the gunsmith is about 100 miles, and how long it would take him to get that @##$^!!  out. This calls for  planning and a certain amount of desperation. I'm not going to tell you this is a recommendation but here is what I did.

Got a primed case and added maybe 3 or 4 grain of TrailBoss( I didn't weigh it).
Stuck about 1/3 of a cotton ball just in the neck to keep the powder in the case. Loaded that into the rifle, took said unit out the back door, elevated it about 40 deg  and pulled the trigger with a small amount of "Angst"  .  What I heard was comparable to a very loud Fart. The offending jig and patches came out  ina nice arch and landed 10 yards or so in the yard.

So now was it luck or superior intelligence. ;D :D

For the amount of powder used & how much space the expanding gas had to go before hitting the jig/patches, I'd say it was a favorably calculated risk and one I would probably try myself... I wouldn't be HOLDING it when I tried it, but try it I would. O0

Way ta go, MacGyver. O0

To you gutless cowards and scumbags, who are trying to lie and rewrite history. To those out to commit genocide on the Southern people with your destruction of Confederate monuments and your attacks on Southern heritage and pride. Be happy for now. Because someday when that civil war you wanted starts. I will find you. And I will kill you.

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.
