Deer/Antelope herds at work
« on: November 19, 2010, 02:36:58 PM »
So the place I work is next to a massive copper mine (Kennecott (sp?)) and it's dump. This herd of deer come through every day & I've had a few close encounters with them in the last month while driving home. There's 2 monster bucks, both are at least 8pts, and massive. There's also a herd of roughly 40 antelope that come through as well. Here's a picture of some of the deer @ 30x zoom, so the clarity isn't there. I'm still trying to get a half decent picture of the antelope & will post that when I get it.

Man this makes me hungry and my finger itchy. :uglystupid2 :crazy2

I fear if it were me out there, at least one of those deer and/or antelopes would have already met with an "unfortunate accident" by now.  O0

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

Funny you should mention that. My first close call with them was with one of the big bucks walking alongside the road. As I drove slowly by him, he wasn't scared at all and went about his business. Made me wish I had my CCW for a minute. Then a few nights ago, I'm driving home & came within 2-3ft of clipping another buck in the head with my passenger side mirror. Can't say for sure I wouldn't have drifted his way a little more had I seen him 5 seconds previously. A damaged mirror I can replace.

How close can you get to those bad boys?

It's a good reason to have a quality tactical rifle in areas like that!

When BC buys me that Barrett .50BMG for Christmas, I'll be able to go there and reach out touch some of them bad boys!
To you gutless cowards and scumbags, who are trying to lie and rewrite history. To those out to commit genocide on the Southern people with your destruction of Confederate monuments and your attacks on Southern heritage and pride. Be happy for now. Because someday when that civil war you wanted starts. I will find you. And I will kill you.

That picture is about 400yds from my office. A little later today, they came within 10yds of the road. Unfortunately, it's all private land that isn't hunted. I'm lookin into loop holes though.

The loop holes I'm lookin into is whether all of this land AROUND their land is private cause I'm outside the city limits & there's plenty of raw land all around me.

I sure hope you get to hunt them, Ks_! That is a lot of temptation to see deer like that up close and personal.

I see a lot of nice deer while on patrol, many smack in the middle of the road. Many evenings after shooting hours I talk to disappointed hunters that are hunting the same deer.
