New SxS
« on: October 27, 2011, 07:52:46 PM »
Well, there's been plenty going on out here, I just haven't taken the time to write anything. So since BC likes to hound me lately for not fulfilling my GPS duties, I figured now is a good time to update ya'll.  :knuppel2

Back in August, my scouts decided they wanted to try their hand at the shotgun shooting merit badge. I haven't had a shotgun in a couple years so I took a look through the local classified. What I found was a Baikal SxS that I've been wanting ever since I sold my O/U. Baikal is Russian-made, sturdy as h3ll & looks nice. They were bought out by Remington a few years ago, who slapped a new name on it (the Spartan) & added an extra $200 to the price tag. Interestingly enough, the Spartan choke tubes fit the Baikal. In any case, the SxS had a custom stock and was listed for a mere $150, so I pounced on it hard & fast.

When I got it home, I noticed that the fit of the stock to the frame was poor with a lot of wobble to it. After taking it apart and looking at things, I decided to check the screw that runs underneath the recoil pad. Sure enough, it was really loose. Tightened it up and the fit & finish were perfect. ??? So, I picked up this nice SxS with a beautiful custom stock for around $400 less than it could have gone for.

Not a bad investment, if I do say so myself. I've taken it out once for clays & once for ducks, which I'm looking to do more of this year.

So there, BC. Satisfied? ;D

Actually, no.  ::)   I can get pictures like that all day off GunBroker.  Also, without pictures of you out hunting and with some type of critter, there's no proof!  :knuppel2 ;) ;D

Look at my "new" shotguns.....  ::)

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

;D Fair enough. All of my adventures have been solo lately though. So, I'll find a way to get some better "quality" pictures up here.
