From what I've read, they are, in fact, related to dove, only bigger. Given the chance, I'd shoot one and cook it up.

I'm thinking Bar-B-Que... =P~

Pigeons are GOOOOOOD!!!!

Several years ago, a buddy of mine and I went to go help a farmer friend of his out.  They guy lived pretty close to an airport and was constantly having pigeons coming in eating and crapping on the grain for his cattle.  We started out with shotguns, but my buddy eventually ran out of shells, and started shooting the things with a .22.  I actually got 3 pigeons with 1 shot there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \:D/  \:D/  \:D/   Once we shot a pigeon, we would get it and put it in a sitting position on the ground.  We had both pigeons and doves coming in to the "decoys".  My buddy would get the first shot with the .22, and then I would follow up with the shotgun to clean up the rest. :D

After we got done, we took the pigeons and doves back to his house and cleaned everything up.  We cooked the doves up that night for supper.  As for the pigeons.............we took them back to college with us and cooked them up for people there on our floor in the dorm.  For the kicker, we told everyone they were big doves, and CHARGED people to eat!!!! 8)  8)  8)  8)  :D  :D  :D  :D           For the charge, we only asked for a few bucks to help cover our cost for the oil, flour, and potatoes.  EVERYONE LOVED THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They were a little tough, but really good.  Heck, I even had a few!!!! 8)   They were good!  We just fried them like you would doves.  I'd say that if you threw them in a crock pot or a pressure cooker first, they would be falling-off-the-bone tender.

As I've said in the past, there ain't a whole lot that I haven't eaten at one time or another! 8)
The only purpose of bread is to hold meat!

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

That was really good, BC! :D We ate a LOT of the pigeons when I was a kid. We roasted or boiled them. They are great with homemade egg noodles, too. We got them by the gunnysack full and the whole family was busy cleaning the birds. Pigeons are dark meat, but good. Dove is very good, and more delicate in taste.
