Finally a means to reload rimfire.
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:07:06 AM »
I found this at a convention called Prepper-Con. This is great for things like SHTF type scenarios, but of more immediate importance is the fact that I can have a .17 HMR or .17 WSM crimping tool made easily enough, so I'm gonna break down and join the .17 gang.

Do they make one in 17 ? I didn't bother with the video, but the primer would seem to be the difficult part. Lots of questions to wonder about. what powder for instance. Are they giving you a formula for the primer ? doesn't look like they are selling supplies. Guess you kinda inconveinced if the firing pin hits the previous indentation, if it will even seat in the breech with the dent misaligned. Still a great idea, if it actually works.

Good news joining the .17 club, Ks_. I have two, the HMR and the WSM and love them both. The HMR is semi retired since I bought the Savage .17 WSM.

Plenty of ammo is available in some stores. I would not attempt to load rimfire ammo.  The supply of rimfire has improved a lot within the last couple of months.

@John - It's not the lack of supply for the .17, but the cost.

I had a chance to talk to the guy behind this product. There's a tool you use to clean out the old priming material. The new priming material is either done with those impact caps for cap guns or the white tips from strike anywhere matches. You crush them up, put them in the spent & cleaned case, add a drop or two of acetone to dissolve it and use the provided tool to pack the new priming compound into the case. The acetone takes 20-30 minutes to evaporate and then you use the manual provided to load the powder. The creator said he has used numerous different powders with success and that you generally use a 1 - 2 grains. There a crimping tool provided as well, which is the only thing really missing to use it with the .17, but being that my old man can make one for me, I'll go that route.

O0 That is pretty cool, Ks_. You must plan to load the HMR and the WSM. I have heard of folks reloading rimfire on another Board. They were adding a larger powder measure, kind of wildcatting.

I think Winchester makes a model 1885 low wall in .17. The rifle is a little over a thousand dollars. Get BC to buy you one. With all his money, he could buy you 5 or 6! :-P    :knuppel2 :tickedoff
To you gutless cowards and scumbags, who are trying to lie and rewrite history. To those out to commit genocide on the Southern people with your destruction of Confederate monuments and your attacks on Southern heritage and pride. Be happy for now. Because someday when that civil war you wanted starts. I will find you. And I will kill you.
