D's Great Coyote Expedition
« on: January 15, 2017, 11:14:31 AM »

Some of us from the BSB forum.
http://www.baitshopboyz.com/forum/default.asp
It started out wonderful!
The boys arrived at the airport  from So Cal and Pa,and CB900f transported them to there hotel. The temps where above "0" slightly and NO wind.
We planed a night hunt so CB900 got them fed and I picked them up and as the sun was setting we where in the field. I'm new the  Night hunting thing as was bachekermooni, bear has done it all... We made the first set as the massive full moon cleared the snow covered horizon. It was so bright you did not need the kill light.

bachekermooni Has that picture .

We made three good set with out as much as an answer .
I did see a person on a snowmobile running around doing his own style of night hunting and we saw his tracks very near where we where trying to call My guess is he had the entire area disturbed.
Home around 9 pm, now  Bear has been up since 12 Am the day before but I hear they made a dinner run after I dropped them off

In the morning I was able to talk the coyote whisperer to come along, my son.
We all get to the king ranch at 6:45 am now 5 strong two trucks and headed out. The wind report dictated we head north to find ground that was calm enough to call.

CALLING was perfect!
Just no coyotes .
Set after set Nothing, more trudging throw and drifts. It was a little tuff on the travelers as well as CB and 45, the coyote whisperer never gets tired .

My boy was called away midway through and we all piled in to CBs extended cab, not an easy feat.
Called some more and worked our way in to a small town that had a bar/restaurant and casino.
Had some well needed lunch, burgers all round.

A few more set and we was whipped !!.

Saturday

The plan was to hunt the king ranch no mater the wind.
I gathered up the guys and we headed out to meet at CBs at 7;00 Am.
That is where things went a little side ways...

After a big doe mule deer decided to crash our party...

A few hours along side the Highway this is how I ended the hunt.

Bear and bachekermooni where dropped off at there motel after a ride back 4 deep in a single seat tow truck.

bachekermooni has that picture too.

My story ends there.
CB900 and his boy picked them up from there and I guess the story continues from there???

I sure do like the pictures you include in your posts too, D. Your boy and you go like a couple of Energizer Bunnies on your hunts, even during extreme weather.

We get some weather here in Iowa but not near what you folks get during your Montana winters.

I got to say, you and your wife sure do bring up kids the right way. I wish more parents were like you folks.

Are you done wolf hunting this season? The only good wolf is a dead wolf, same as coyotes.

Thanks

So much snow up where the wolves are I'm not currently planning a wolf trip. :tickedoff
If conditions change the season runs in to march so there is still some time

I reckon deep snow makes it easier for the wolves to bring down game like elk. Sure would make it tough hunting for you.

What did you do as far as the elk? Not done yet, are you?

I did not get an elk in general season and I did not get one on my management hunt.
I still have a month on the management hunt but probably will not go back.
The boy did get his monster 360 elk.
I have been  concentrating on coyotes .
I would love to do a little wolf hunting.
BUT
I'm kinda hampered,  The last dog trip I ended my Sububerns life by clobbering a doe mule deer at 70 mph...

Wow! I was going to ask you if it totaled it. I sure hate to see that.

Got any ideas what you are getting to replace it? We had one like yours at work, was a great vehicle until the Army sold it. Now we have new fleet of mostly 4WD pickups at work, Chevy and Dodge. Someone said we have some Hummers coming.

Your pals game for some more hunting this year? They look game enough for more.
