Again with the waterbug
« on: March 27, 2017, 02:58:03 PM »
You know with out a truck to get out in the field I sure seam to be working on the bug a lot. That is a good thing I suppose . I finished the "slick" paint , the sheet steel and the HDPE runners on. I had it upside down in my shop for over a month. I put her the right side down now and it looks better. I'm planning on taking it over to our Fish wildlife and parks station soon . To have a "VIN" assigned and stamped in the hull. A formality to get a title and registration and a boat number, and permeant tags. I'm going to get it titled as a plane gas powered 12' boat, forgoing some Federal regulations ...
My first plan was not to have bung plugs and just use a high capacity bilge pump. BUT
with the new invasive Mussels the FWP is going to require a permeant drain in a boat hull, in my case two.
EVEN if I never use them they have to be there, humm.
Now I have to do that BEFORE I take her down for said "VIN" number.
I did Redo a small trailer we have to accommodate the 7 1/2 foot wide boat, its a temporary fix till I can make a custom , for my purpose ,trailer just to use to move it around a bit and to water test things as I go.
I would love to be out practicing killing gophers But, you know life happens .

You are having quite a time of it, D! Now bungholes! Is sure coming along now, going to have it licensed and titled soon and on the water. :)

As for truck shopping, it is really tough to find a good truck and not pay a fortune.

No adult mussels have been found.
But there larva have been .
In two of our reservoirs, problem is there "Up stream " impoundments.
One is in the main stream of the Missouri river and the other is at the head of a  tributary of the Missouri .
Sounds like bad news to me...

Yeah on bad news, D. Once they get started in a waterway, there is no way to stop them that I know of.

At long last I have the primary clutch "ON" the motor.
I had to relocate the starter an 1/8 inch as to let the front half turn freely.

Every thing is turning to the left and all the screw on parts are right hand thread. I have roll pins and nut locks an anything in the "Drive train". I'm going to do a power up soon to see if the VW 1600cc will make the clutch engage. The "First" "TEST" ended in a major malfunction. BUT I have added a carrier bearing to prevent that  now, I hope.

O0 Mechanic porn! Looks good, D! With left hand threaded parts and right hand threaded parts, has the torque caused problems of anything coming loose? Maybe not, since Loktite works very good.
