Waterbug project water testing again
« on: April 08, 2017, 04:10:03 PM »

All went well.
the many holes I pocked in the bottom to attach the HDPE and steel I was concerned for leaking.

WATER TIGHT Nice.

All the work on the bottom to make it slick seamed to work.
When I in hooked one of the tie downs in back the boat very nearly unloaded its self on the ramp...

We put about 400 pounds in water in tubs and pieces of Iron to see what it would be when the motor is on .
It does push it a little deeper then the last test.
It now is right at 5" of water with two people and the extra 400 pounds, a little deeper then I had hoped but I think it will still be ok, Hope anyway.
More later.

I bet the Waterbug will go like a turpentined cat with your motor going. One of those hell-bent-for election crafts! Your 4 stroke Volkswagen engine should be simple and cheap to operate.

Your power train is a brilliant idea. I have never heard of another Volkswagen powered boat. What put you onto the idea, D?

O0   I plan to use it in COOOLD weather . The boys mud boat is powered by an air cooled 32 hp Koler and is great well below freezing.
SOOO.
An air cooled motor on an air boat seamed like a logical step.
VW Porsche  and Subaru are about the only choices
