Funny Or Oddball Shots ?
« on: December 13, 2003, 05:59:24 AM »
What are some of the funny or oddball shots you have made, or seen?  I have made some, and once saw my hunting buddy shoot his '57 Chevy. We were parked and rabbit hunting with .22's. When we returned to his parked car we spotted a rabbit sitting about 50 yds. from the other side of his car. So ol' Don leaned across the hood of his parked car and got the bunny in his crosshairs, and shot. We heard the bullet whining across the blue yonder and saw the rabbit still sitting there. The next thing I heard was my buddy cussing! Across his car hood was a neat bullet rip. The muzzle didn't clear his hood, but of course the scope, being higher, made the shot look OK to him.

I know a certain someone on this board that shall remain nameless - unless they choose to fess up :)  -  that tagged a nice fridgedair a few years back.  Hey, it wasn't an easy shot either.  This person had to first clear a couple of layers of drywall.  hehe....

Nothing really weird has happened, other than the usual, "OH MY GOD!  I can't believe I just made that shot!".  These have been on squirrels and birds.  Had a deer come in under my stand while bowhunting.  I was pulled on him and following.  When he got under my stand I remember thinking, "I can't shoot straight down!  I've never shot straight down!"  I shot and saw my arrow in the ground and the deer ran off.  Thought I had missed until I heard him crashing. :D

I saw one involving one of my uncles and another guy.  This was when the in-line muzzleloaders were just starting to come out.  We were done hunting for the weekend and the guy that had the in-line was going to shoot the load out.  He asked my uncle if he wanted to shoot it, and of course he did (mistake!).  My uncle was used to a .50 cal with a round ball.  The guy failed to tell my uncle that he had about 100 gr. of powder and about a 350 gr. lead bullet in a sabbot in the .50 cal gun.  We looked up on the hill and saw something white on the side of it.  They thought it was a salt block (for the miniature horses) and decided to shoot it (don't ask me why!!! :?: ).  Anyway, my uncle got down on the gun and just a little too close to the scope and squeezed it off.  What they thought was a salt block turned out to be a white cat, which he missed.  As you can imagine, the gun kicked quite a bit with the big charge and bullet.  The scope came back breaking his glasses, cutting his nose and his eye brow.  After we made sure he was OK, then the fun started!!!!! :D  :D

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

My outfit had to qualify with the .308 sniper rifles. Two of the guys, novices, cut their eyebrows with the scopes. How anyone could be so dumb? For the first thing,as we know, EYE RELIEF! The knuckleheads couldn't even see anything through the scope with it that close to their eye! One guy had several masters degrees. So much for higher education. The other guy was ex-military, but just plain dumb. The guy with the fancy education always complained about recoil, too. 'Nother DUMB! Another EX-officer was bored in a guardshack one night and decided to practice his draw, or something. He unloaded his sidearm and was going to draw and snap one at his reflection in the large window. Yep, you guessed it. POW! Clean hole right through the center of his reflection! He just missed 4 of us outside, too. He was so deep in doo-doo that he didn't come up for air until he was back in Texas. He killed his reflection  :) in Iowa. I saw one of my brothers take a shot with a .22 long rifle at a cat that was running to a doze pile. The cat had to be 350 to 400 yds. He hit it, it jumped, and made it to the edge of the pile and ran out of steam. We performed an autopsy in the field and discovered Charlie had blown the tip off the cat's heart. One shot, one kill. :)  :)  :)

I've noticed, the Emoticon for "shocked" ( ) looks a lot like a squirrel's head after being hit in the head with my .17! :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

For you information, it wasn't a fridgidaire-it was a magicchef. And it wasn't drywall, it was paneling. Get your facts straight  :x What's even worse is you seem to have completely forgot about the TV, wall stud, kitchen table and chair.  Some people just have a knack for remembering only what they want to, distorting the facts, and making the rest up
