 I AM SOOOO JEALOUS!!! I'mnot sure if you lucked out on that one, or if you panned it to turn out that way, but it seems you've got yourself a super squirrel dog there.

Congratulations John!!!  It sounds like you did a very good job training that pup....
my dog chases them up a tree, but as soon as they are out of her reach she doesn't even care about them any more.....  oh well, guess I'll just have to keep sniping them with my rifle....
a country boy can survive!

Got pics???

Sounds like the pup's training is going well John. Now it's time to start with your wife. "Shoot the squirrel dear, Then lead the dog off"

Thanks, folks. The pup has been watching the older dog bark at them while they are tied up, and she watches me work the the older 1 yr. old. Thing is, the pup \:D/  seems to be able to figure things out for himself, and stays on the tree. In fact, my wife has to drag him away from the tree, but she is careful on how she does that, so as not to ruin him, thank goodness. As soon as she lets go of him, right back to the tree he goes. He then sits there and looks directly at the squirrel. I think I will be using him to train the older dog, if there is any hope for her. Yep, my wife could use some training, I know. Deer season continues through the coming weekend, so Smokey and I will have to suffer :x  :(  another weekend of sitting out the hunt. One other thing, he has been fed scraps of squirrel, along with the older dog. I think that has helped, as well as I let him maul the dead ones I bring home, too. The two dogs go NUTS when I bring the squirrels home, and also when they see me wearing my camo and carrying my rifle to the truck. I tell them, "SQUIRRELS! SQUIRRELS! SQUIRRELS"! when I go, and they are out of their minds with the thought of squirrels. While I am gone, they are going nuts with all the city squirrels running around here, just out of reach.
