What's an afrodisiac? I couldn't find it in the dictionary. Sounds like some sort of hair styling product. Come to think of it, a shed antler would make a good pick

That's because the spelling is aphrodisiac and if you really want it, the definition can be found here.

Back to the topic, I've never hunted deer, though I love venison. Everything goes well, then I might give it a shot this next season. If I DID hunt them though, I'd hunt for the meat strickly. I'm not at all interested in having mounted animals on my walls, with the exception of certain things. (i.e. - I want a set of monster elephant ivory's on each side of my study.) If I need antlers, I can always pick up some sheds, or take a walk through some of the neighborhoods in the boonies and talk to the people with dozens of racks littering the side of their house. (And yes, I HAVE seen some places like that.)

And BC, I have to say that you and my old man have something in common. If he were a hunter, he'd be using his .44 Mag as well.

The thing about having the critters mounted, for me anyway, is that I can look at them and think back to how everything happened on the hunt.  With a bigger buck, they didn't get that way by being stupid.  Most of the time, you really have to match witts with one, and beat him on his own turf.  THAT'S THE CHALLENGE!  Then again, all of that was back when I had plenty of time to hunt. :'(  Now, with the limited amount of time I've got, I just about shoot the first buck I see.....................But I'm still adding in the challenge by using the pistol.  The most deer I ever got in a year was 7.  That was a good year!!!! :D   I had deer meat running out my ears, and loved every bit of it! :D

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

The year I got 7, I got 3 bucks and 4 does.  On the Statewide tags you buy, you're only allowed 1 buck.  If you get drawn for hunts on Wildlife Management Areas or Military Installations, there's an extra buck tag for those areas.  That year, I took the piebald buck on my Statewide tag, a nice 8 pt on one of the WMA hunts, and an 11 pt on Ft. Knox.  Plus, I popped 2 does during the early MZ season, one with a rifle, and one more during the late MZ season.  KY is set up with 4 different zones throughout the state, with Zone 4 being the most restrictive, and Zone 1 being the most liberal.  In a Zone 1 county, you can take an UNLIMITED number of antlerless deer.  This is all well and good in some areas, but other areas are mis-zoned (that's another story you don't want to get me started on. >:().  Anyway, the county I was hunting was a Zone 1, allowing me to take the 4 does.  I could have taken more if the deer would have showed up!
