The range on them isn't much, 10 MAYBE 20 yards and shot placement is absoluelty critical at anything over point blank range. I knew a guy who hunted pigeons around his apartment complex with a blowgun. If you looked out his balcony, you could see dozens of darts stuck in the overhang of the building across the way. Once he couldn't seem to kill this one pigeon. He'd hit it, but the skinny darts wouldn't bring it down. I saw it waling around once with close to 15 darts in its body. It couldn't fly because the wings had been pinned to it sides and it even had the darts in its neck. He finally bought some broadheads and put an end to its misery and his embarrassment.

That was the reason I only hunted mice with them. If I hit one, it would usually pin them to my floor.

I used the round plastic bead type with the skinny wire in them. Dad wasn't real crazy about all these sticking in the eaves, however, it was megacool when you hit one and it looked like a specimen in an insect collection pinned to a rafter. I later switched to the bare plastic balls and just stomped them while they were trying to regain their senses and take flight again. And I didn't have to go get the ladder after a day's shooting, before Dad came home.

Hey Ks, I think what he was saying is that he was sitting in the cabin when a grouse came blasting through the kitchen window, breaking both the window and the bird.  With the bird dead, he reached down and picked it up....................

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.
