Oak Ridge WMA: Has anyone ever hunted it?
« on: October 21, 2005, 10:15:25 PM »
I'm new to hunting and finally took a buck last year after 5 years of trying. This year I got drawn for the early bow hunt in the Oak Ridge WMA, TN. (Popular Creek Area) I have never set foot in the place and I don't know anyone who has. There is a really good web site by Oak Ridge that details the historical figures of what has been killed where and how big it was, plus it has this years hunting zones on a map.

I have pulled up some topos

of my area but from the figures it seems like the success rate for most of the area is about 30 deer for the year (2004)  total  (I think there are about 3 or 4 different hunts) From what I've figured out on the topos and aerial shots (which are outdated 1997)  There is a small area call the Arbortum which seems to have a very high succes rate compared to the rest of the popular creek area.

Anyway I'm rambling. Has anyone out there hunted Oak Ridge and could you give me any information on the place. The date is fast approaching and I only get 8 hours to scout the whole thing. It seems a near maze which many of the roads off limits to hunters. I see lots of small roads on the maps but I'm not sure if I can drive on them or are they only for foot traffic?
