Xbows
« on: November 19, 2005, 08:34:32 PM »
I have seen other chat sites where the hunters get angry about xbows, but I was wondering what the best pull for one would be...would 150# be good enough to get a kill?

What a coincidence. I just got permission from the state for my daughter to use one. Been meaning to research them. I just checked some forums and the general concencus is 150 lbs to plenty sufficient for deer. While there, I noticed the state of Pa. has a 200# max restriction on them. Check your local game laws before you buy one. Some states like missouri concider them firearms and don't allow them for archery hunts, unless you have a disability that prevents you from using a long/compound bow.

I was looking into a crossbow purchase myself and did a little research.  The lower limit of an acceptable crossbow for whitetail, that I have found, is 125 Pounds.  Crossbows at 150 Pounds seem to be the standard.  For a 150 Pound Crossbow, Barnett Crossbows, says the maximum range is about 40 Yards.  Hope that helps.
I have long know that it is part of God's plan for me to spend a little time with each of the most stupid people on earth.

I see you're playing stupid again...  looks like you're winning too.

I've been watching the cheap ones on e-bay as well. I'm a little leery of them. I noticed the front sight is a narrow "U" shaped frame. It looks like it will hit the fletching when fired. Others are shown with a scope. Not sure I need a 4X scope for deer at 40yds. I've only used one Commando with a scope. It was nice that the scope had multiple crosshairs that were very closely matched to the trajectory out to 40 yds.But the big names I've handled with std sights have a much larger sight frame, some with multi- pins. These look a little better thought out.
On a side note, you need to use a scope that is designed for crossbows, if you decide to go that route. The re-coil on a crossbow is forward and riflescopes are not designed to take the re-coil in that direction.
