Update: Maine Bear Baiting Initiative Headed For Ballot
« on: March 19, 2004, 07:14:59 AM »
AUGUSTA, ME—According to Maine Secretary of State Dan Gwadosky, an initiative to ban bear baiting in the state garnered nearly twice the number of required signatures to force a referendum.

Gwadosky says the petition from Maine Citizens for Fair Bear Hunting had more than 97,000 valid signatures, 50,000 more than needed to send the initiative to the state House of Representatives.

State lawmakers will now decide whether to send the proposal to voters. Maine Gov. John Baldacci has said he and his administration oppose the initiative.

Maine sportsmen should contact their state representatives and encourage them to vote against this initiative. To find the name of your representative, and for contact information, use the "Legislative Action Center" on the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance Web site,

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.
