Prepaid return postage?
« on: January 13, 2006, 01:02:02 PM »
Slaughtered squirrel sent to animal welfare group

 Jan 10 2006

 By Paul Rhys

A SQUIRREL was shot in the head and mailed to an
 animal welfare group.

Staff were horrified when they opened an envelope
containing the bloodied squirrel entombed in a
 vacuum pack.

Southwark-based League Against Cruel Sports was
sent the carcass in one of its own pre-paid
envelopes as part of an alleged scam that has cost
 it thousands.

The league has also been mailed sackloads of
 bricks, telephone directories and excrement,
believed to be from countryside activists furious
at its successful campaign for a ban on hunting
 with dogs.

All packages are now being opened and returned to
sender by the Royal Mail - regardless of content -
 costing the organisation potentially thousands
 more in lost donations.

Post room worker Cathy Liddiard, 25, was horrified
when she opened the package at the group's offices
in Union Street, Borough, on Friday.

Yesterday she told the South London Press: "I was
 shocked at first, then sickened.

"Now I just feel anger and disgust that someone,
however much they might disagree with what the
league is trying to do, could stoop so low. It
just demonstrates how sick-minded some of the
 pro-hunt lobby are."

Spokeswoman Wanda Wyporska said: "The young woman
who opened this package was understandably
 traumatised.

"These people have no regard for anything but
 their own interests.

"I've long ceased to think there's a voice of
reason in the hunting fraternity. We've campaigned
lawfully for a ban on hunting and this is a
horrendous waste of time and money for us and the
 Royal Mail."

It had not been decided as we went to press who
would foot the bill for the packages, so far
 estimated at more than 10,000.

The league was yesterday still in negotiations
with the Royal Mail over costs.

Ms Wyporska added that police were investigating
and the league was also considering action against
two newspapers that published the freepost address
for the packages to be sent.

My thoughts exactly, Marlin... But if they had collected a dozen or so severed, head-shot squirrel heads and THEN mailed them, well, that'd be alright.

On the other hand, I do feel a bit sorry for the poor lady who had to open it. I may despise these activists, but what they did WAS immoral, if you think about it.

  They should have just mailed them The Gut Pile.

I do feel sorry for the lady that opened the package, she probably joined PETA. :'(
I have long know that it is part of God's plan for me to spend a little time with each of the most stupid people on earth.

I see you're playing stupid again...  looks like you're winning too.

Repulsive and disgusting waste of good meat. The heads wolud have been good enough. What makes it even more distressing is the receivers did not appreciate it.
