K&P, you are gonna want a head shot if you can swing it. The link below will show you that the boiler room of a hog is much smaller than people have believed and the backbone runs lower than expected. This is why there are so many stories of hogs taking bullet after bullet and still going strong.

as far as doing the processing yourself, for a first time. flat out no! like was stated take it someplace to have it done, and also dont be afraid to ask if you can watch, a lot of deer processors up here in Pa. will drag ya in and let ya watch as they do the cutting, and accually the ones i have dealt with took the time to explain, show me things about it all.. evryone in the world is willing to be a teacher, all ya gotta do is ask!
when in doubt shoot twice

That was quite informative, nice find. O0  There needed to be more blood and gore though.

Home butchering a hog is quite a job. We used to home butcher hogs, even boiling the scraps and making soap at home.  I skinned and butcherd a bear at home, and the way to butcher a bear is exactly the same as a hog, same cuts.

That would be because the bear is related to the pig, but you probably know that already. O0

No, I didn't know that. Big ol' hairy pigs, I believe it. I used to hear bear are related to racoons, too.
