How far do ya'll travel...
« on: February 06, 2006, 12:45:18 PM »
Okay folks. Let's hear it. How far do you typically drive to get to your honey spots? Myself, I just found a beautiful piece of country about 20 minutes from me. Roughly 3 square miles of forested hills and streams. I've not done a preliminary scouting of the area yet, but what I've driven by thus far is simply gorgeous.

So, how's about ya'll. I know we've had this discussion before, but it's been quite a while and I'd like to hear from the people again.

Also, BC, I'm looking for some land to hunt just south of Greenville, MO for the purpose of taking some monster Russian Boars. Plenty of Public land in the area, too. I know how much you love you pork, and it's only a few hours drive for ya, so I'll keep you posted.

KS,
I am probably one of the fortunate ones that is able to walk out the back door. On the other hand, we have several other places that takes us any where from 5 to 15 minute to get to.  What I've noticed when going to a new hunting location is that when the area is hilly and has some good timber to it, look for the ridges that run north-south.  It seems the eastern side of these ridges are where most of the deer hang out.

I could be way off on this one, but I know here around our area most of our deer are found on the eastern side.

Good luck and happy hunting your new honey hole.  I hope it holds many hunting opportunities and hunting memories for you  O0

Ten Minutes to a Few Hours, depending on what I am hunting and who I am hunting with.
I have long know that it is part of God's plan for me to spend a little time with each of the most stupid people on earth.

I see you're playing stupid again...  looks like you're winning too.

Well I guess I am a little different.
1. When I hunt my home state it could be 10 min. or it could be 2 hrs. depending where I go that day.
2. I have a small place in Western Me. and it takes about 3 1/2 hrs to get to but once I'm there just step outside.
3. I hunt a small apple farm in Ct. its about 1 1/2 hrs. from here.
4. And I really like the Little North Mtn. near the George Washington State forrest in Gosen VA. about 14 Hours.
I wish I had more time I  would keep going. But I retire in 4 years then I will be a full time hunter I don't want to rush my life away but I am looking forward to it.                    Mike

Sounds good on the hogs Ks!  Let me know!!!!  We be havin' PORK! O0

As far as the place I hunt, it's about 50 miles away, which takes about an hour to get there.  Once I'm there though, depending upon which cabin I'm in and where I'm wanting to hunt determines whether or not I've got to get on the 4 wheeler to get there.

This new house we moved to doesn't have any place to hunt on it, but I WILL be able to step out the back door and do some shooting! O0

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.
