I haven't hunted with one myself (too much of a whimp, I guess  :-\  )  However, I saw a competition awhile back and there was a guy shooting a recurve amidst a bunch of compounds.  Of course, he wasn't going to top them, but he wasn't terribly far off the mark from the rest.  Pretty impressive skills!

BTW - making one on your own is pretty impressive too!   8)   Throw us some pics up when you get finished.  That would have to be the ultimate - making a kill with something you made yourself.

I've got a longbow, though I have never shot this one. Never made one, though. I guess I'm not enough of a fanatic about them to want to make my own.

my father in law has a couple and has hunted with them for years, and has told me many stories about his biggest buck ever taken with a long bow while siiting on a stump....I guess it worked for him, but I'm in love with my new compound, and climbing tree stand, would I ever use one of his long bows...I would love too, but they are presently displayed proudly on his wall next to his massive spread of a 10 pointer(full mount) for the last 5 years, every hunting season I tell him that I will be back with one that size, and he always laughs... and I have yet to get one that big....maybe one day I will use a recurve, but I'm just not willing, or able to buy one, when I inherit his (or if) , I will proudly go out and try hunting the old fashioned way...
your mission if you choose to accept it, is to go through the boiler maker to get to the Gut Pile Style
