I prefer the 30.06 Ruger synthetic stock with stainless barrell.  I chose this caliber because it can handle the game I hunt from Dingo to Sambar Stag it has never let me down.
I'd rather be hunting.

DeathFromAbove - Suprisingly enough, a 180grn silvertip 30.06 caliber projectile will do less damage to a Dingo than say, a 55grn .223 caliber projectile.  The pure dingo's have a very small frame so the heavier projectile won't mushroom as fast as it  travel's through the animals body, there for a smaller exit wound is the result!  It does make a hole though
I'd rather be hunting.

I like my .54 cal muzzleloader!  Been thinking of getting a .338.  Don't ask me why.  There's nothing around here that needs something that big to bring down.  I just want one!!!  I'm weird, I like really small calibers, and really big ones!

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

C.N., what mfg. of your M1? I had one I loved, made by General Motors. I hadda sell it back in the 70's. One of the FINEST rifles ever made, the M1! My favorite rifle I own now is my Savage .17 .

Mines a Springfield. Havent checked out all the particulars on it yet. It does have the arsenial stamps. And came out of arlington Va. But other than that I just know it shoots straight.
