elk antler growth
« on: April 30, 2006, 09:28:41 AM »
-- i've FINALLY got the elk around here to spend some time at my food plots, and it got me wondering .....  do the same food plot products/plants have the same effect on elk as they do deer?  I know in most areas the elk will move so much that a food plot doesn't really work, but up here in NW MN we've got a herd of about 150 that disperse in the summer, and acutally do spend quite a bit of time in a realitivly small area (2-3 square miles).  Now they are at my plot a couple of times a week, and i would really like to help improve their genetics further (found a 7X8 set).

thanks guys

they are acutally talking about having a season for us in this corner of the state.  They are either gonna do it by landowner, or a once in a lifetime draw.

Not to veer this post elsewhere, but I had a customer give me some elk jerky once. Hoo-boy that was some good stuff. I've heard that elk is better than deer like deer is better than beef. ^-^
