It takes patience to break a good hound. Ya gotta be persistent and it helps to be a lil smarter then the dog.

Well, nscar, I wouldn't recommend it, but you get in the water, search around for holes that a cat MIGHT be in. When you find a likely hole under a bank, in a log, under a rock, or wherever, you make sure you buddy's right there with you, and you have him stick his gloved hand into the hole and wiggle his fingers. Don't matter if it's a catfish, beaver, muskrat, or snapping turtle of enormous proportions... it'll bite his hand instead of yours. While your buddy is swinging his engulfed hand around and screaming like a little school girl to get it off get it off... you calmly take the critter off his hand, put it back in the water, and kick your buddy for being that stupid.

And that, nscar, is how you noodle a cat...   ;D O0

You ought to remember that snappers and cats share the same environment and prefer the same cover. So, it depends on how numerous the snappers are in the area and how lucky you feel. ;) The key to avoid losing a finger to a snapper is to not panic when bit. When the snapper bites you, it's not trying to eat you. It's trying to tell you to vacate the premises quickly. If you don't react and don't jerk your hand back, it'll let go right away and you'll just be sore for a while, but intact overall.

You know, I've jumped out of airplanes.

Gone SCUBA diving with sharks.

Killed wild hogs with knife and spear.

Even milked a rattlesnake once.

BUT!!

There is no way in hell I'd ever go 'noodlin. I have friends and family who do it and yes, they bring in some big channel, blues and flatheads.

So far they still have MOST of their fingers.

I've gone along as an OBSERVER on a few of these trips and here's what it looks like.

Water visibility is zero.

So of course you stick your hand inside a log that might have the biggest alligator snapping turtle in the Mississippi river in it.

Makes sense me to me.

And remember the alligator snapping turtle is protected in most states so if you harrass or hurt it....You go to jail!

All kidding aside I can only find two cases where someones been bitten by a moccasin when sticking their hands in the logs and have found five cases from three different states where someone has been bitten badly by a snapping turtle within the last five years.

Of course one could wonder about the cases not reported because nobody wanted to admit they were out sticking their hands in logs in dingy water.
To you gutless cowards and scumbags, who are trying to lie and rewrite history. To those out to commit genocide on the Southern people with your destruction of Confederate monuments and your attacks on Southern heritage and pride. Be happy for now. Because someday when that civil war you wanted starts. I will find you. And I will kill you.
