hey all i am sure someone here knows i need a ballpark idea.. what produces more heat on the outside of the barrel, modern powder or black powders?  i know about the burn and the pressures, but i was curious as to outside surface temps?
when in doubt shoot twice

Modern powder burns a lot hotter than black powder and would therefor produce more heat transfering to the ourside of your barrel.  I was always under the impression that friction of the projectile going down the barrel contributed to a lot of the heat that is retained in a barrel.
I refuse to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
