Need arrow speed!!!
« on: March 16, 2008, 08:45:23 PM »
Im haveing a problem with my bow. I shoot a Parker phoenix 34 at 25 1/2 and 70 but my sight is bottomed out at 35 yards. Im shooting carbon impact 6000 arrows and my arrows fishtail in flight.

Sounds like you need to reset your knock, or check your limb torq! If one limb is not set to the other you wont get true flight! Worst case is you got a bad bow, it happens! I have been there twice before! Most bows I have had you can tighten the limbs all the way down and then back em off equially to your desired weight and it will be set right! Good luck, Im by no means a pro tuner, but these are some of the things I do and have done!

Do the arrows "porpoise" up and down or "fishtail" left and right? I don't realy have much trouble with my Phoenix 32... tuning the rest and sights is always a problem, but the limbs are strong and consistant. Yell back when you get an update.

They fishtail up to the right. I just thought this bow should shoot flatter.

My 28'' carbon arrows with 85 gr heads fly to 20 yards with no drop. at 20-25 it starts to drop a little. Past 30 and you realy need to know the precise target distance to account for the severe drop. That's all on 58/9#. How are the arrows sticking into the target? Are they all straight in, or knocks up and left of the tip etc?

well not real familiar with the arrow your shooting.Looking at the chart your spine should be right. It sounds like maybe a contact issue somewhere.Lip stick or foot powder on rest and such area's will let ya see the contact spots. The short draw length is a speed killer which drives some people to go light but I don't think you are by chart. What kinda fletching are you shooting is there contact with cables.what tip weight are you shooting.what style of rest are you shooting. If it is a drop away style check to make sure the drawing string for the rest is not to long or stretched could be causing slight contact with rest/fletching.Has the bow been paper tuned lately. http://www.google.com/products?q=optimizer+bow+sight&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1
.This style sight is what I like for shooting yardage.Just mark your yardage starting at 20 yards and you should be able to get out to 60 or so with your set up.There is cheaper models but ya get what ya pay for. This site will let you set it for the off yardages like 23 or 32 for 3d shooting. Some of todays newer bows get some really fast speeds with a 7 inch brace height.Even with the 6 inch brace height and the sts (which will help not hitting your arm with shorter brace height ).That would bump your speed 280 to 300 fps depending on set up.In less your in the market for a new bow.I would check for contact issues/tuning.Then maybe get a sight that will let ya get alittle more yardage.I hope I didn't confuse ya to much just trying to help. If  your interested in a new bow pm me I might be able to get ya a deal depending on what your looking for.

well the dxt is  a very good bow.The extra draw length growth is great.Mathews is a quality bow I just sold one and have had several over the years never had a problem with them and I shoot Alottttt.I have never been a parker fan since I was almost killed by one.Twice in less than 6 months from a brand new one.Mathews might not be the fastest bow on the planet but they are a quality all around bow and very hard to beat.Very smooth, forgiving, quite,no hand shock.Im not a brand specific kinda guy.But Mathews is a good bow you should be happy.
