Everything went perfect this morning
« on: April 05, 2008, 02:06:49 PM »
- rain quit at daylight
- the gobbler began to gobble his head off right where he was supposed to be.
- got the dekes out, in the blind and set undetected
- he quit gobbling on his own when the fog came in
- but answered me everytime I tree yelped O0
- I knew with him gobbling this much from the roost he was LONELY!!! O0 O0
- 7:40 came and I hear him leave the roost and........
- he lands right in the middle of the deke spread at 15 yards!!!!!
- Things got a little hurried, but shortly sorted out :)
-so now he is at 15 yards, semi strut :knuppel2
- gun went up, aimed , and BANG.........................

- She MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( :-\ ;D

In her defense, we were not expecting him to fly to us. He was SUPPOSED to work his way down the old logging road putting him at her 11 o'clock, but when he landed it was at her 1 o'clock and she had to twist some. Then add to that, the nice and tight undertaker choke tube at 15 yards is like shooting a slug at him!!! I just think when things got hurried, we rushed and she never quite got settled back on the gun like she should have. I will take the blame, I was one pumped up daddy, I shook for 10 minutes after. Anyways, she missed and he ran and putted his happy arse back up the mountain. The rain returned and we hung out in the truck watching fields for awhile then headed home. Great day still, and he is still out there for us to chase again another day!! O0

I bet that was fun, though! Next time she will carry the bird to the truck, I'm sure.  O0 Ol' Dad did a great job.  O0

the sad thing about hunting, is everyone tends to miss now and then, but when it does happen we also replay that scenario for a long time..... :'( :-\ :'(

Now thats a hunt to remember. Having the bird come down almost in your laps, the time spent together, thats what it's all about. O0 The rest that didn't quite go as planned, oh well, take it as lessons learned and remember thats why we call it huntin..not shoppin  ;D

That would be cool to have one come in that close. Did you try running it down and strangling it?
