'97 Winchester 12 Gauge Shotgun
« on: July 03, 2008, 09:35:55 AM »
Years ago I bought my first repeating shotgun, a Winchester 12GA 30" full choke barrel. A couple of years later, I traded it off.
Because of my mother's advanced age and health, she is giving family heirlooms to family members. I was visiting her a couple of days ago when she asked me if I would like my (deceased) dad's old shotgun.
Of course, I quickly accepted.
It is a 12 Gauge 30" barreled Winchester '97, identical to the one I owned.
The old shotgun's home is here now and will find an honored place in my house.
Perhaps It will bring down some game this coming hunting season, to keep the old gun in it's proper working order.  :)

Grats John, I think. O0 It's nice to see a relic getting out to do as God intended... and it's good for the shotgun too. ;) ;D

Good deal john. I have my dad's old shotgun and take it out every once in a while just for the memories. It isn't anything special just an old Western Field that looks like a humpback Browning. I think they were made by Savage on a Browning patent. I had it refinished a fwew years ago and put a new buttstock on it. It occupies an honored spot in the safe.

Because of my mother's advanced age and health

This got me thinkin if JA is callin it advanced age his mother must be close to 300 hundred years old
It takes patience to break a good hound. Ya gotta be persistent and it helps to be a lil smarter then the dog.

Brings Back Memories My Ol'Man has Been Gone for a few years Now and I remeber the Model 97 He hunted everything with .. When I started huntin Dove My ol'man used to score doubles with that ol gun when I graduated to the big guns He proudly handed it to Me and I scored a couple hits then went for the New and Improved Shotgun and stuffed it in the closet well when I got married some years ago and the wife decided she wanted to start doin a little Hunting with me SO instead of Buying her some New fangled auto-loader or something I broke Out my ol'mans gun and handed it off

Well Now its Back In the gun safe until the next Hunter in the family is ready

That's great, the '97 being used like it was intended for.  O0
