He asked if we hunt Raccoons. We have them in Mt but there all nocturnal and most are along rivers or streams and we cant use light to hunt

In Oregon raccoons are nocturnal, too...I hear they are in IN and GA, too.
In Oregon you can't use a light to hunt, except for raccoon.  Dense as some game laws have become, hunting for raccoon without a light would be painful!  My shins hurt just thinking about it.

I've hunted in Nite Hunts in MT and we most certainly used a light.  The guides from MT all had headlamps and belts, so I'm guessing MT has the same exception for using lights while coonhunting.

You can execute or capture with those sticks and they work good. I was dispatched to capture a critter that turned out to be a big male cotimundi. The capture stick worked great but getting the very pi$$ed off critter into the capture cardboard box was a chore! I did it all by myself and tossed the box onto the backseat of the parol car and hauled it to HQ.

Our dispatcher radioed me and asked what I was going to do if the critter got out of the box while I was driving. I radioed back I was going to step out and let the coti drive.  ;D I could hear the Lts laughing in the background when the dispatcher keyed his mike for his next comment.  ;D
