Our Field Staff, Robin, harvested this 5 point buck on the first day of permit muzzle loader in New Jersey.

Robin was in her stand by 6am and shortly before 7, she could hear something walking by in the brush, probably the monster she did NOT see. Shortly after daylight, a small 5 pt comes to the bait and she sees a larger bodied spike off to her right. He too eventually works his way in. Robin quickly decide that the 5 is NOT a shooter for her and continued to sit there and watch. She keep telling herself 6 points or better, 6 points or better . . . Over two hours later, these guys had taunted her over and over again and finally brought a third buck to the pile, a non-typical spike. Well, she was in total torture and could not take it any longer. Robin brought the gun up, but could not use the rail as a rest, so she ended up shooting free hand. She had tried to slip herself down on her back into an almost laying position, but that did not work either. Anyway, they all ran off after the shot, seemingly like nothing was wrong. She listened intently, but heard no crash. After about a half an hour, she decided to start looking for blood. It was there, but rather quickly, Robin made the decision to back out and wait as she found pieces of corn in with the blood. Several hours later, she returned and found her buck not 30 yards from where she had backed out. It appears that Robin shot through the bottom of one lung, daigonal and through the front of the stomach, thus the corn, and then the bullet exited through the bottom of the liver. He had expired rather quickly, however, when in doubt, back out. And although she shot him at 9:05am, she did not get him out of the woods and checked in until slightly after 2pm. 120 pounds (Robin) dragging out 100 pounds (her guess on the dressed buck) isn't the easiest thing to do you know. Anyway, by 3:30 Robin was pumped up another tree with her bow as she still has a bow buck tag to try to fill.

She's been out there three to four times a week for the last month working on the bow buck and hasn't had any luck yet
