It's In The Works!
« on: April 08, 2009, 10:32:16 AM »
Everything finally came together and I'm getting my crossbow!

Decided on the Excalibur Equinox
     Velocity  350 fps*
     Draw Weight  225 lbs.
     Power Stroke  16.5"
     Mass Weight  6.4 lbs
     Overall Length  38.4"
     Arrow Length  20"
     Arrow Weight  350 Grain Min.
     Stock Type  Thumbhole
     Finish  Realtree AP HD

Figured since I was only going to get 1 (for right now anyway), it might as well be a good one. O0  I was looking at the Excalibur Ibex because it was lighter and would be easier for the boy to hold.  But after I really got to comparing it with the others, I found it it was only 2" shorter and 3.2 oz lighter than the Equinox, but gave up 45 f.p.s. in speed.  The weight difference wasn't enough for me to sacrifice that much speed. O0

The real "kicker" to it is that the retail on the bow package and the case I'm getting is $1,070, but my out-of-pocket is only going to run about $250-300. ;D O0  With a deal like that, I couldn't pass it up!  And no, it's not used or an old model.  The bow is the 2009 model and everything is coming straight from the factory. O0

Now I can't wait for October to roll around!  I got a feeling me and the boy are going to put a hurtin' on a deer or two. O0

In all seriousness, the Marlin is a great rifle, too. I own a Model 60, one of the best rifles ever made.
Brownings are nice, but in terms of quality AND accuarcy AND ruggedness, it's hard to beat the Marlin.
California sucks that's it.

Yeah, I could have gotten a compound one cheaper, but they aren't nearly the quality that Excalibur crossbows are. O0  What's even funnier is that I had to get a "good" crossbow from Canada! ;D  Excalibur is in Ontario. ;D

I was wondering what are the advantages are of a recurve over compound in a crossbow.  Is Just less parts that could malfunction?  Does it affect the draw weight?
